- Award-Winning Graphics for Broadcast
Digital Artist Tim Johnson, of KUTV Ch. 2, Salt Lake City, Utah Tim Johnson's years as a television graphic artist have been highlighted with a regional Emmy for work on a news promotion project, and by sheer enjoyment of the creative challenges of producing graphics that communicate precisely, hold attention, draw interest to exactly the right elements, and put the message across to the audience.
- “I like LightWave for broadcast because of the speed. It’s easy to import a commercial client’s logo (created in Illustrator) directly in Modeler, and crank out a flying logo in little to no time. We can export out in 32-bit files for compositing on another system, or view them directly from LightWave’s framebuffer on our VT. The speed and workflow has been a big time-saver. With less render and setup time, we’re able to focus on what we’re paid to do - being creative. We know what we need to accomplish, and LightWave is the quickest way to do so.”

- John Davis, DNA Productions
A forty-second short by an animator in Dallas gave birth to an Oscar-nominated CGI movie, the first motion picture to be created entirely in off-the-shelf software.
- “I wanted to try and stay with the core program that we know well and have used for years - LightWave 3D®. We also used the Messiah plug-in for main character work. I've always loved the look of the LightWave® renderer, the fx, and the speed at which you can get things done in the package. We did not have time to develop any proprietary tools (other than a few utilities for assisting our pipeline), nor did I feel we really needed any. Since we had such a small amount of time to produce, I wanted to concentrate on the talent and use powerful yet friendly tools.”
- “...the modeler is just kick-ass. Texturing is also quick and powerful. We also used the heck out of the new HyperVoxels, Volumetrics, and particle system. The show has lots of effects!”
- “From the time I started writing the first draft until we delivered the film - 24 months. This was incredibly fast for an animated feature (normal length for Pixar or PDI is 4 years).”
- John Gross, Eden FX
- John Gross of Eden FX has worked on projects consisting of some of the hottest shows on TV today including, Enterprise, Smallville, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Star Trek: Voyager, and SeaQuest DSV. John has this to say about LightWave 3D: “The number one most useful feature of LightWave® is the ease of use and the speed at which we can turn out work. The features...that have helped our productivity the most are character animation tools, Graph Editor, and the new slew of modeling capabilities. What I like best about LightWave® is that it feels right. It’s not arcane science and command lines, but more like a real studio.”

When Amir Youssef of SWIFT-RENDER went looking for a dependable high-end 3D package that ran well on an average desktop he found it in LightWave 3D®. “A friend of mine told me to check out the LightWave® gallery at NewTek.com. I couldn’t believe that these images were created with ‘off the shelf’ software. Right then and there I knew that LightWave® was going to give me what I needed.”
- SWIFT-RENDER is a team of architects, graphic designers and animators in Cairo, Egypt who specialize in architectural presentation. LightWave® gives them confidence that they can make deadlines and wow clients every time. “In our line of work, speed is very important and render quality is equally important. Some packages are very fast but have poor render quality, others are the opposite. But, LightWave® is very fast with very high render quality.”
- Amir says there are many reasons that SWIFT-RENDER uses LightWave 3D®. It is flexible, rich in features and has the power to handle whatever job comes their way.
